Campfire Conversions

An open door in Central Asia!

Through a cloud of dust, a lake emerges from the barren wilderness, a welcome sight after a gruelling journey across the steppes of Central Asia. For many young people who make this trip each summer, what awaits them is far more significant than a week’s holiday. It may be their first real encounter with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Camp at the Lake has been running since 2017, led by a young couple and supported by a network of indigenous Central Asian partners. Each summer, young people from across the ‘Stans gather for a week of fun, friendship, and teaching. Around half of the 140 campers who attended in 2025 were non–believers with the majority from Muslim backgrounds.

This is by design. Local Christians are encouraged to invite unsaved friends and family. As one leader puts it, “The Christians are meant to invite non–Christian friends. It is their ticket to the camp.” As the week unfolds, leaders see God at work in young lives. Initially hesitant, Muslim campers who might walk out of Bible talks on day one are, by midweek and once trust has formed, staying, listening, and asking deep questions about faith.

Consider Alma, a young girl who attended this past summer with little understanding of Christianity. After hearing testimonies and engaging with believers, she left full of questions and eager to explore more. She is one of many. Last year alone, 70 young people made expressions of faith despite the cost! In Central Asia, conversion from Islam can mean family rejection and real danger.

This camp is an open door for the gospel. However, a significant funding gap has emerged following the withdrawal of one of the camp’s usual major donors this year. It costs just £100 to send one young person to camp. Would you prayerfully consider whether you could help send one or more?
