Seen By God

Bringing hope to refugees in Myanmar and Thailand.

In the West, by and large, we can access medical help, intervention and investigation as and when we need it. Our expectant mothers have assigned midwives and can take advantage of their expertise when they are anxious about their own health or the health of the unborn child. Across the age spectrum, we are blessed with care, medicine, and expertise. This is not the case for many people around the world, especially in war–torn countries where the lack of medical intervention can mean death.

Our partners who minister in Myanmar and Thailand among refugees and displaced people groups come across many people with medical conditions which are life–threatening. On a recent trip into Myanmar, a small team had the opportunity to minister to more than 60 widows who had become one–parent families due to the war.

There were men whose wives had died in childbirth because they were living in the jungle, having been forced from their homes by the military and unable to get the help needed when the time came for their wives to give birth.

There were women whose husbands had been killed while trying to find food for their families. Some had been struck by a drone and others by stepping on landmines planted near to their homes. Some had lost spouses who became ill while hiding in the jungle and were unable to access medical help.

For women in these situations, homeless and without a husband to provide, life is intolerably difficult. For men who lose their wives, much support in caring for children is needed while the fathers go out seeking food and shelter.

Our partners were able to minister to this group of hurting people. First, they opened the Word of God and encouraged them to believe that they are seen by God, that He knows and understands their situation and that He cares. They prayed with them all individually, lifting before their needs, whether emotional, physical or spiritual, before God. Our partners watched as the Spirit of God moved among them and tears began to flow from eyes hardened by war and need.

Next, they met some of their physical need. They provided lunch, gave them food for their families, tarpaulins for shelter, and small amounts of money which would enable them to purchase medicine when needed.

We are called by the Lord Jesus to act mercifully to those who are in need. Our partners minister to those who have both spiritual and physical needs, bringing relief and hope when their situations seem hopeless.

Pray with us for continued provision for this crucial ministry and pray that the Lord would give mercy to these people with so little.
