Training pastors and offering aid for the sake of the gospel.
Our partners in India continue to face difficulties as they seek to minister in communities where both government pressure and societal persecution are endemic. There is much instability and tension within the country, and doing ministry in this context requires great wisdom and care, as there is always the risk of being restricted or shut down.
However, God’s people in this remarkable country continue to serve those who need to hear the gospel by teaching and training leaders and pastors for ministry.
Recently, our partner was able to run a conference, gathering 160 leaders, some of whom came from areas where there had been intense persecution. He taught on biblical principles of evangelism and the work of the Holy Spirit, as found in the book of Acts. In breakout sessions, the participants engaged enthusiastically in discussion, sharing their own experiences and encouraging one another.
Poverty is one of the main problems within the rural communities, and our partners are sometimes asked to help with medical needs that arise. Harina is just five years old and suffers from Thalassaemia Major. Her parents took her to a specialist hospital and were told that the only permanent cure for their daughter’s condition would be a bone marrow transplant — a treatment they cannot afford. Some of the cost was covered by a local relief fund, but the family, along with village officials, approached our partners and asked for further assistance. Our partners did what they could to help, and the family plan to get Harina the treatment she needs.
Lifting people out of the poverty that affects whole families continues to be a focus for our partners, and a sewing programme for young women has restarted after COVID restrictions made it impossible to continue. Thirty young women recently completed the course and are now qualified in essential tailoring skills, from stitching basics to garment making. Many of them had never touched a sewing machine before. They completed the training with confidence, skill, and hope for a self–sustaining future. At the graduation ceremony, each girl received a new sewing machine sponsored by our partners. These machines represent more than just equipment — they symbolise freedom from poverty, the dignity of work, and the power of generosity.
Our partner also reported that he had the privilege of laying the foundation stone for a new community church building in his local area. His mother’s spiritual mentor had started the congregation in this village, and despite the previous building falling into a dangerous state of disrepair, the congregation has grown enormously.
Praise & Prayer Points
· Praise God for growing congregations and ask for continued favour in the eyes of village officials and governmental organisations.
· Praise God that even amidst persecution and difficulty, He is at work and allowing His people the opportunity to work alongside Him.
· Pray for Harina and her family.
· Pray too that the favour shown to our partners by both local government and village officials would continue, allowing them to minister into the lives and situations that are presented to them.
