As we enter the season of advent, a busy time lies ahead for schools all over the country as they stage their carol services and nativity plays. Doting parents and grandparents will look on with pride as their little ones recite their lines and perform their starring roles.

No nativity play would be complete without several adorable little angels complete with fluffy wings and tinsel covered halos. Angels played a vital role that first Christmas as heralds of the Good News. Firstly as the angel Gabriel visited Mary announcing her high calling as the human channel through whom God would send His Son into the world. Sometime later, as Joseph struggled to come to terms with Mary’s pregnancy, an angel appeared to him bringing the reassurance that the child in Mary’s womb was none other than the Son of God.

Later, on the hillside outside Bethlehem, an angel appeared to the shepherds announcing the Saviour’s birth. The startled shepherds were comforted with these words, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people”. A whole host of angels joined in praising God saying “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased”

Today, over 2000 years later, that Good News still needs to be shared with all people. There are over 2 billion people in Asia today who are still waiting to hear those glad tidings of great joy for the first time. Please remember our AsiaLink partners, modern day heralds of the Good News, as they share the message of a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. Our evangelists and church planters throughout Asia are facing many challenges as they carry this wonderful message to some of the least reached parts of our world.
