Asia is an absorbing and people-rich continent.
With 60% of the world’s population crammed into just 30% of the planet’s land area, it’s little wonder that Asia’s cities host life as close-up and cramped as anywhere on the planet.
Yet, the most striking feature of the our most populous continent is its diversity. Almost 4 billion people communicate using a phenomenal catalogue of languages: from the Sino-Tibetans to the Semitics, Mon-Khmer to Dravidian - there are literally thousands of languages and dialects that divide not simply countries but villages and neighbours.
Factor in the ethnic and cultural diversity of such a mass of peoples and the waters become even more muddied.
Clearly, sharing the story of Jesus presents special challenges that perhaps require special solutions.
The Beautiful Feet project expresses the unfettered joy the Gospel can bring to billions who remain wrapped in unbelief.
We work with a network of Asian leaders to identify those who are willing and ready who go, who already speak perfectly the difficult languages of the region, and, crucially, are intimately aware of the complex realities of folk religions, of people with other faiths and of people with no faith.
In other words, AsiaLink’s job is to connect you with local church planters, teachers, vocational trainers, counsellors, translators and so on, enabling Asians to go both to their own people and beyond their immediate borders.
Beautiful Feet workers are serving today among the Uighurs in China, the Karen in Burma and the Pashtun in Afghanistan. Others serve in Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh. Some are desperately trying to minister to Maldivians. And then there are the North Koreans, those hard-pressed believers being purified in ways few of us could withstand. They too want to go back and reach their people.
If you would like to be a Beautiful Feet partner we’d love to have you join us. This is a fantastic way to advance the work by placing effective, trained and passionate evangelists into some of the remaining unreached corners of Asia.
You could give a one-off gift or set up a regular standing order. You could fund a worker for one month (£25/$40) or for twelve months. Or you could simply pray.
And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” (Romans 10:15)
